What is the dress code during over the weekend?

For the meetings, business casual attire.

For the Friday night dinner, Punjabi cultural attire is recommended.

For the Saturday night Gala, formal (traditional or otherwise) for females and black tie optional for males.


Is there assigned seating at the dinner?

Friday night dinner has open seating.

Saturday night Gala will have assigned seating. Your preference for this seating will be taken at registration.

 

What kind of food will be served? What if we have dietary restrictions?

A continental breakfast will be served on both Friday and Saturday from 8-10am. This will be set up outside of the respective meeting rooms for attendees.

On Sunday morning, a full breakfast will be served in the Concert Hall, form 9-11am in conjunction with the general body meetings that morning. There will be ample room for all the families to enjoy breakfast prior to departure.

Lunches are full buffet and pretty extensive in offerings.

There will be a separate buffet set up for the children during lunch on both days.

Friday evening, we are serving dinner to honor the Streets of Toronto… with a mix of Asian, Mediterranean and Indian offerings at various stations representing the cultural districts of Toronto. There will be a vast array of desserts as well.

Saturday night is a full family style Indian dinner.

On Saturday night, the children will have the option to view a movie during the evening addressed and entertainment after dinner with their families. During this time, there will be a full Ice cream Sundae Bar set up for dessert as well.

Every meal will have extensive vegetarian options, and any meat served will be Non-Halal.

If an attendee has other dietary restrictions, these will be noted at registration.

 

What are the kids programs? Who will be supervising them?

There is childrens’ programing schedules for Friday July 13th from 9-12 in the library and York rooms. During this time, there will be an age wise rotation through workshops with the featured artist Kanwar Singh, a book reading and workshop with Inni Kaur, author and CEO of Sikhri as well as a Bhangra session with Ms. Narula during which the children will learn a simple routine that they will then perform at the Friday night culutural even.

This will then resume on Saturday 14th form 9-12, 1:30-5p. During this time, our director of children’s activities, Preeti Uppal, has several workshops planned.

On Saturday morning, an excursion is being offered to CN tower or Ripley’s aquarium- parents can sign their children up for this excursion at registration. This WILL  be an extra cost to families wishing to do this.

During the Saturday Night Gala dinner, we have set up a movie viewing and Ice Cream Sundae Bar for all the children immediately following dinner, during the evening addresses and entertainment.

During all childrens’ activities we will have the director and many volunteers working with and supervising the children.

 

How do we get to the hotel?

Transportation to the hotel can be arranged in many ways:

  1. There are many car services at the airport, ready at the airport for pickup at any time. If you would like to make arrangements prior to arriving
  2. You can call Aerofleet Airport Services- 1800-268-0905 or 905-678-7077. The cost from the airport to the hotel is $53 CAD without tip. Mention the conference for excellent service.
  3. Union Pearson express: this is a train service that travels from Terminals 1 and 3 directly to Union station which is directly across the street from the Fairmont Royal York.
  4. Please use UBER at your own discretion as UBER is new to Pearson airport. The Drivers and fares are very unreliable in Toronto.

 

How will be be transported to and from the community organizations being toured on Friday?

Transportation has been prearranged. We will have 3 coach buses leaving the hotel at 15 min intervals and will be explained to you at registration.
